The New York based magazine, "Engineering News Record", which is recognized as one of the world’s most respected institutions in contracting and engineering, has voted Çalık Enerji’s Al-Khairat Power Plant Project in Iraq as the world's best project in the industrial area. Çalık Enerji General Manager Mr. Osman Saim Dinç received the Grand award at the ceremony held in New York.
Çalık Enerji, one of the affiliates of Çalık Holding, has won the first ranking award, which is recognized as the ‘Oscar’ of the global community of contracting and engineering. Al-Khairat Power Plant Project constructed by the company in Karbala has been granted with the award, “Best Global Project" in the ‘Industrial’ category. At the ceremony held in New York, the award was presented to Çalık Enerji General Manager Mr. Osman Saim Dinç on behalf of Çalık Enerji as a part of the ‘Gala Night’ held as part of ENR Global Summit.
Çalık Enerji has managed to win this award by outpacing the US company, Bechtel, which managed to rank the first in the global rankings of world’s top contracting and engineering companies for 15 years in a row as the rankings are set by ENR, a part of McGraw Hill Group also including the credit rating agency, Standard and Poors (S&P). Çalık Enerji General Manager Mr. Osman Saim Dinç received the award for Çalık Enerji. He noted that the responsibility for providing peace and welfare in this globalizing world does not rest solely with the governments, and added: ''We are delighted to provide towns with power as this is the way to establish peace and welfare to which we have made contributions as well”.
Euphrates Region is provided with electricity
Underlining that Al-Khairat Power Plant is one of the most important infrastructure projects in re-construction of Iraq, Çalık Enerji General Manager Mr. Osman Saim Dinç added: “Al-Khairat Power Plant will meet one fourth of Iraq’s total electricity generation and is currently the largest Power Plant in the country. Thanks to the Power Plant which operates at full capacity since October, electricity is provided to a total population of 5 million people across Karbala, Babil, Nacef and Kazimiye round the clock without any interruption. The power plant is equipped with 10 GE 9E model to generate power. In addition, we have kicked off to construct another power plant in Mosul, the Northern Iraq. The construction is almost done. It will be in operation soon.
Çalık Enerji Ranks the Ninth Among World's Top Companies
Again, this award granted for Çalık Enerji is yet another strong evidence proving the company's international identity. The company ranks 9th among world's top companies and manages to rise to the 111th from the 129th in the list of "World’s Top 250 International Contractors” annually released by Engineering News Record."
World Giants Compete for the Award
Best Global Project awards are traditionally given by the Engeneering News Record magazine, an affiliate of the US based McGraw-Hill Group, which annually votes and releases the world’s Top 225 contracting companies. The award granted for Çalık Enerji for the 1250 MW Al-Khairat Power Plant Project constructed and put into operation in Karbala, Iraq is dubbed the ‘Oscar’ of the community of contracting and engineering. In the category of “Industrial Facilities” where Çalık Enerji has ranked the first, the US contracting company, Bechtel, won the “Award of Merit” regarded as the one of the top two awards in Saudi Arabia.
