Zafer Çağlayan, Turkish Minister of Economy, reported that there are a total of 55 Turkish Companies in the international construction journal Engineering News Record's (ENR) list of top 250 contractors, and that Turkish contracting industry ranked the 2nd following China.
In his written statement, Çağlayan declared his opinions regarding the ENR's Top 250 for the year 2013, prepared by ENR according to operations of contracting companies in international markets as of the year 2012. Stating that 5 Turkish companies were ranked among top 100 companies and a total of 38 Turkish companies ranked in the list, Çağlayan pointed out that Turkish contracting companies ranked the second in the list following China, which ranked the 1st with 55 companies in total.
Emphasizing that the 38 Turkish companies in the ENR's list of Top 250 for the year 2013 earned a revenue of USD 16,8 billion in the international markets, Çağlayan said: "The share of listed Turkish contractors revenues within total revenues of all listed companies is 3.3 percent. This success of the contracting industry rests particularly on efforts and support of the Esteemed Prime Minister. I congratulate Turkish contracting industry on the success".
On the other hand, Çağlayan pointed out that there are 34 Turkish companies among top 225 companies of the list, and noted that there are 33 Turkish Companies in the ENR's Top 225 for the year 2012. Çağlayan continued:
"As for revenues of Turkish companies in top 225 of the list, the Turkish companies in Top 225 list released in 2012 attained a revenue of USD 16,3 billion, with an increase by 2,5 percent, from USD 15,9 billion. Total overseas revenue of contracting companies in the ENR's list of Top 250 was USD 511 billion. For comparison with the list released the year before, the ENR provided the revenues earned by top 225 contracting companies in the international markets in year 2012. Accordingly, the revenues earned by the top 225 companies in year 2012 increased by 12 percent from USD 453 billion in 2011 up to USD 503 billion. When the list of this year is compared to the list of the past year, Canada is the country with the highest increase in international project revenues by 33,6 percent. As for regions, 23 percent increase was realized in Asia and Australia, 22 percent in Latin America and 20 percent in the USA. The rate of increase in Sub-saharan Africa was recorded as 2,5 percent."
Reporting that project revenues increased by 9 percent in the Middle East, as one of the major markets of Turkish contracting companies, Çağlayan stated that the political crises in North Africa caused a decline by 10.5 percent in project revenues. The Minister Çağlayan noted that he submitted letters of acknowledgment and appreciation to each company ranked in ENR's list. Top 10 Turkish companies in ENR's List of Top 250:
