Composed of Çalık Enerji, the Turkish Petroleum and Bayat Enerji, the consortium agreed to a deal with the Afghan Ministry of Mines and Petroleum to carry out exploration activities for oil and natural gas across Totimaidan block located in northern Afghanistan.
Attending the press conference held as a part of the Atlantic Council Energy and Economic Summit organized in Istanbul on November 18-20, 2015, the Chairman of the Board Mr. Ahmet Çalık noted that Çalık Enerji has been engaging with the energy markets of the Central Asia for a long time now and commented: "We take pride in being a part of a consortium to help Afghanistan reclaim its position as a major regional energy producer and importer and serve the Afghan government.
The Afghan Minister of Mines and Petroleum Mr. Daud Saba said that the consortium pledged $ 90 million of investment. Reiterating Afghanistan's opulent potential for petroleum and natural gas, he added: "I hope this agreement will serve as a starting point for petroleum and natural gas industries to meet the country's need for energy."
Pointing to the fact that Çalık Enerji, Bayat Enerji and the Turkish Petroleum have made one of the most pivotal investments in the country towards this industry, Mr. Saba remarked that such investments will create employment and contribute to peace and stability.
It is reported that exploration activities regarding the investment will be launched in the early 2016 while the official deal is set to signed in Kabul in December 2015. We wish this investment to lead to fruitful outcomes for our company.
