20-YEAR COOPERATION BETWEEN MITSUBISHI CORPORATION AND ÇALIK ENERJİ TURNS INTO A PARTNERSHIP


Engaging in cooperation for industrial facility projects since 1990s, Mitsubishi Corporation and Çalık Holding crown their 20-year cooperation with a partnership agreement. As a part of the partnership where Mitsubishi purchased shares from Çalık Enerji, the parties aim at further expanding infrastructural and energy projects in burgeoning markets such as the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa. This partnership is going to provide both companies with a competitive edge in both the MENA region and the global market.

Aspiring to increase business operations in energy and energy-related infrastructural industries for rapidly-growing markets such as the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa, Çalık Enerji was established in 1998. Çalık Enerji operates in turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services (EPC) for power plants as well as in electricity, gas distribution and electricity energy generation. Çalık Enerji aims at growing in providing people with access to electricity as well as in power stations, transmission lines and contracting, gas and water distribution and renewable energy thanks to business models to be designed in the forthcoming period of time following this partnership.

Held for the partnership announced as a part of an event organized in Tokyo on June 3, the ceremony was attended by the Mitsubishi Corporation President and CEO Mr. Ken Kobayashi, JBIG Senior Managing Director Mr. Tadashi Maeda, the Undersecretary for the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Tokyo Mr. Alp Atakcan and senior executives of both companies.

Ahmet Çalik said: "This partnership is going to contribute to the regional and global welfare" Having taken the floor during the ceremony, Çalık Holding Chairman of the Board and CEO Mr. Ahmet Çalık stated that the current economic relations can be further improved given the deep-rooted friendly ties between Japan and Turkey, and that there is a much greater potential of synergy between two countries in terms of operational and economic topics.

Expressing his belief in coming up with major joint projects for the MENA region in particular and the global market thanks to the burgeoning cooperation between Turkish and Japanese companies, Mr. Çalık said: "We have seen nothing but commitment, honesty, diligence and self-sacrifice in our Japanese friends as a part of the cooperation that has been in place for years. In addition, we are extremely impressed by their working discipline, know-how, courage, consultation skills and advanced technologies as much as their quality in projects, importance attached to punctuality and working principles with dignity. We have always trusted and respected each other, and built our business relations on this basis."

Before concluding his remarks, Mr. Ahmet Çalık commented: "I hope this partnership is going to contribute to the regional and global welfare and peace through new projects we plan to take on. I believe this partnership is going to synergize both companies to a significant extent, and pave the way for expanding in various fields of operation in the forthcoming period."

During the ceremony, the Mitsubishi Corporation President and CEO Mr. Kobayashi, Mitsubishi Corporation Senior Vice President Mr. Nakahara, JBIC Senior Managing Director Mr. Maeda and the Undersecretary for the Embassy of Turkey in Japan deliver speeches, as well.
